As Christians around the world celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pause for a moment to spotlight the significance of this historical reality. The belief that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead three days after His Crucifixion is the premise and the basic foundation of the Christian doctrine. The accounts of the resurrection are recorded in four books of the Gospel; Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-19; Luke 24:1-51; and John 20:1-25. How wonderful it is that Jesus paid the ultimate price by becoming the sacrificial lamb so that sinners may be set free and live abundantly.

The fact that God raised Jesus from the dead with all power in heaven and in earth, therein lies the hope that every Christian should embrace. It is significant that Jesus lives and that He lives in those who believe in His name and receive Him by faith (John 1:12). For…” without faith, it is impossible to please God…” (Hebrews 11:16). It is also significant that when Jesus appeared after His Resurrection to His disciples He gave the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). This is the charge to Christians all around the world, to go and spread the good news of the Gospel.
So during this season let us not forget the significance of Resurrection Sunday when the world attempts to turn our focus to Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. For Jesus has said: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25)
