As Jesus rides into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey over 2000 years ago, He is greeted by many people with palm branches shouting “Hosanna” a Hebrew prayer (save me or save now). Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday will be celebrated by many Christian churches this year on April 1st to commemorate the last week of the life of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection.
Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: "Hosanna! 'Blessed [is] He who comes in the name of the LORD!" (Mark 11:9 NKJ) Jesus was greeted as a King, and many of the greeters just wanted to be saved from the tyranny of the Roman Empire but did not realize that He was, and is today “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords." Mediating on this passage (Mark 11:9) made me think about how many people are still in search of a king to save them, and are still crying out “Hosanna” in some form of expression. The voices are different, but the cries and prayer requests are still the same, “save us Lord from political corruption, illicit relationships, physical, financial and spiritual bankruptcy." It is good to know that His love remains the same.
Lord Jesus, how we thank you for your triumphant entry into Jerusalem to fulfill an Old Testament prophecy (Zechariah 9:9-10) that our King would come riding on a donkey with salvation. We thank you that there is no other King before you and that you offer salvation from the tyranny of sin. We thank you Lord that you became the sacrificial lamb for our sins, bleed, hung and died and poured out your love. We celebrate and glorify your name Lord because it was the blood and your resurrection power that allows us to be here today to worship you in spirit and in truth. We pray that someone today will accept you as their Lord and Savior and allow you to ride victoriously into their lives as King! Amen
