Inspirational Truth for Today - In the Blink of an Eye

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53

In the blink of an eye you can lose everything.  Home, car, job, spouse, health insurance, savings and hope for tomorrow.  Nothing is left untouched in the recession facing many today.  There are no stones that are being left unturned.  Unemployment coupled with stress, fear, hunger, anxiety, relationship woes, confusion and hopelessness can prevail for many months, some out of work for months or years.

In the past, it was common to turn to the local government and non-profit agencies for assistance.  Food stamps, Medicaid, and aid for those with dependants were readily available.  Nowadays, the government is doing all it can to stay afloat which means jobs are cut, benefits are eliminated and the cost shifted onto the worker, pay raises are few and far in between, and those agencies offering assistance with food, shelter and utilities are finding it hard to maintain their coffers.

In the blink of an eye, the lifestyle that you aspired to and worked to build can come tumbling down around you.  What do you do?  Where do you turn?  Who is going to help you when those who are willing are limited and, those who once had open hands must close them like vice grips, making huge cuts everywhere just to stay solvent a while longer?

Wisdom dictates that you build your house on things eternal (Colossians 3:2).  Big paychecks once meant bigger and better things; yet, no one counted the costs of the “what ifs”.  Blinded by wealth and luxury, we mentally close the door on the pitfalls of life, believing that money will shelter us from the woes and hardships that face those less fortunate than ourselves.  We realized that having money was not the root of all evil.  We forgot that the love of it was, and so, we were enticed to make believe that it was the answer to all our needs and wants.  Poverty was once a curse in other’s eyes but the tables have turned making luxury its own enemy, for the fall is far greater when your life topples from such prominent heights.

Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have…” (Acts 3:6).  In the blink of an eye, I watch as the world deteriorates and disintegrates around me. I have confirmed intellectually and spiritually that nothing this earth holds guarantees me the peace that passes all understanding except the knowledge of knowing who holds all things in His hands.  When I blinked (had a reality check), and it took a couple of times, I began to see more clearly.  What I see is that I don’t need material riches or another human being to be happy, content, satisfied, to feel important or to feel loved.  The combination of people and money are nice, desirable partnerships, but are not the primary thrust of my existence.  With clarity, I have been lead willingly into the Light and know that I already have happiness, contentment, satisfaction, am important and am greatly loved because God is everything needed and I have God! Anything I need, He’ll supply!  In the blink of an eye, I found “me” when I found Christ, and I no longer blink in the darkness, but I await the Son-rise in the sky!
